Background
The Company was created in 1986. Although the name changed in 1998, the one original starting member still serves as the primary polygraphist.
"Polygraph Inquiries" as the company is now mostly referred to, was created to render polygraph examinations for clients in the private sector of South Africa. These clients, some of whom had made use of the company since 1991, have noticed that polygraph examinations as done by Polygraph Inquiries, helped them solve many investigations and also saved time and cost.
Coen Pretorius has served as a Clerk of the Court and Prosecutor in the Department of Justice and Research Analyst thereafter. Since 1980, however, Mr. Pretorius had been involved in counter intelligence and investigative work. He subsequently trained as a polygraphist in 1986 and completed his polygraph internship in 1987. Since then he has been active in the forensic field. His polygraph experience can be described as varied but focused mainly on the investigation of theft, fraud, hijack and abuse of company property.
Mr. Pretorius has handled pre-employment polygraph examinations for certain clients, including government departments, with much success. During the past five years he has also been involved in examinations relating to sexual matters for attorneys and other profesional representatives.
Since 1986 Mr. Pretorius has completed over 15 000 polygraph examinations for satisfied clients. Many of these verified with confessions and/or sworn statements afterwards.
Besides establishing Polygraph Inquiries of SA he has also played a part in setting up PASA. In fact, Mr. Pretorius has played a primary role in establishing the Polygraph Association of South Africa (PASA). He had the distinction of serving four years as the President of PASA. He has been an Associate Member of the American Polygraph Association (APA) since 1992. Mr. Pretorius also had the privilege of serving as a former Regional Representative of the APA for Southern Africa for a year. |
